Welcome To Midwest Dive Club

Midwest Dive Club is a new site and organization created to getting more midwesterners involved in the sport of SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) diving as well as getting people that are already diving together to organize and plan dive trips and activities throughout the year. Although we are based out of the Kansas City area, which will be where we will hold our meetings, we will be catering to all midwesterners, and may open chapters in other cities down the road. If this is your first time to the site, please register with us, it is totally free. In the future registered members will receive a monthly or bi-monthly newletter with the various activities the group will be sponsoring as well as everything else from new and used gear for sale to tips and tales from our diving members. Our members will also receive special discounts on gear via a "direct from the manufacturer" approach as well as discounted dive trips that the club will be organizing. We are currently working on a building another page off or our site to showcase all of the great prices for various destinations, everywhere from Cozumel to Belize to Florida. Meanwhile, if you are interested in helping with the club, have any ideas, or just want to say hi, feel free to contact us or you can post to our forum with any questions, comments or information you would like to offer. There will be plenty more to come, so stay tuned, sign up and get involved if you are interested.

New Website to Register Your Gear!! | Send this article to a friend Printer friendly page (64 Comments)
Diving Tips A new web site has just started at, www.divegearregistration.com  This site offers an invaluable service to divers and so far it is free!  on this site you can register the serial numbers of all of your diving related equipment.  Now everytime that gear is taken in for service participating dive shops will check this site to see if the gear that was brought in for service is registered.  If it is registered and the person who brought the gear in to be serviced is not the person it is registered to the dive shop can then contact the person it is registered to and see if it is stollen.I think this is a great website and everyone who invests in dive gear should use it.  Be sure to check this site out there is an FAQ section that should answer all your questions.  So far I know that Frogman Scuba in the Northland checks all of the gear it services on this website and several other shops in the KC area are going to start in the near future.

Diver Breaks World Record | Send this article to a friend Printer friendly page (96 Comments)
Dive Log Taken From The Wet Gazette Issue 38   www.thewetgazette.com

A scuba diver from Borehamwood has broken the world record for the longest ever-open water dive, by staying underwater for more than 24 hours.

Diving instructor Will Goodman, 28, from Stapleton Road, broke the record just off the coast of Bali, Indonesia, while training for his ultimate goal of spending an entire week underwater, which he is planning to do next month. But, as he emerged from the sea in Gili Trawangan on Monday last week, he was greeted by hundreds of cheering locals waving banners and screaming in the streets, and local television crews. "I couldn't believe it. I came up and there were children screaming my name and press everywhere," he said. "It was all very surreal and I was understandably very disorientated but the adrenalin was amazing." Read more...

Trip to Cabo - A detailed account of our member Steve's Dive vacation | Send this article to a friend Printer friendly page (88 Comments)
Travel News & Info Trip to Cabo - submitted by Steve Dupus, aka Stevan

An E-mail special from American Airlines set me to thinking. As winter was setting in on a long year I made the decision that I couldn’t make it to springbreak without warm sunshine and clear water. (We already had St. Maarten booked for springbreak) From Kansas City most good deals are to Cancun and the Yucatan but after many trips there I wanted something a little different. I had considered Cabo for a few years but the airfare during the times when I could travel always seemed high. (My wife is a teacher which locks us in to traveling during peak periods)
The deal gave us a choice between Fiesta Inn in San José and Fiesta Americana on the hotel corridor. Both were all-inclusive packages but the Fiesta Inn was a little cheaper and near town which I thought to be a plus for my wife who is not a diver but fluent in Spanish and enjoys dealing with Mexican trinket dealers. Also in my Yucatan mentality I figured all the resorts in the area would have deals with the area dive shops.
