Beginning Scuba Lessons -- PADI Open Water Diver

The PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Open Water Diver Certification course consists of two parts: classroom and pool training, followed by four Open Water training dives. Upon completion of both parts you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver. This beginning certification is recognized in the US, Caribbean and around the world.

Classroom and Pool Training - "Your First Step to Certification"
The purpose of the classroom and pool training is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills they need to enjoy and safely complete the open water training. Classroom and pool training using state of the art equipment, combined with our small group size, assures a thorough and enjoyable training program. We offer evening, and weekend courses, while private lessons can be scheduled to meet your needs. Contact us any time dates available.

Frequent Questions about our Classes:
What is the classroom and pool fee?
The combined fee is only $99.95, which includes classroom and pool instruction, pool fees, use of scuba equipment and PADI student materials. Materials include: Open Water Diver Manual, log book, and Recreational Dive Planner (Tables) all of which are yours to keep, plus a  free rental of DVD or VHS with for a $40 deposit which will be refunded upon return of the DVD/VHS video. If you are going on to complete your Open Water training with us at one of our three locations the fees associated with that will be due upon enrollment.

How many people are in each class?
PADI Open Water Diver classes are small, limited to six to eight students per Instructor during pool training, to assure personal attention and fun while learning how to Scuba Dive. This is considered Semi-Private, and that is the standard class at Frogman Scuba so each student can get the personal learning experience and quality that they deserve. Fee's differ upon the number of people in each class and the personal attention that you would like to have.
What equipment do I need?
You will need to provide your own basic snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, snorkel), as these are individually fitted items. You will also need a swimsuit and towel for your pool sessions. We will provide all other scuba equipment needed for the course such as BCD, Regulator, Octo, and Weights.
Is there an age restriction?
You must be at least 15 years old to receive PADI Open Water Diver certification, but there is no maximum age. Those 10 to 14 may take the course and receive a PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification. Once certified, 10 and 11 year olds must dive with a parent, guardian or PADI Professional. PADI Junior Open Water divers age 12 and up must dive with a certified adult until they turn 15 years of age.
Do I have to be a strong swimmer?
No, you need only to be comfortable in the water and capable of swimming continuously for two hundred yards, and treading water/floating for 10 min.
What do I need to do before the first class?
You need to view the PADI videos (or DVDs), read the PADI textbook (260 pages) and complete knowledge reviews at the end of each module. The book is yours to keep, and the videos are available for rental with a depost. You also need to complete a PADI Student Record File (which includes a Medical Statement). Certain existing medical conditions will require a signed physicians approval before your first pool session.  You can download and review the PADI Medical Statement here. If you answer yes to any of the medical history questions, please print a copy to take to your physician for their approval and signature and present the signed copy to your instructor.
Where are the classes held?
We currently have 4 pools in the Kansas City Area that we work with, contact us to find out which ones will be available for your class dates.
Are private lessons available?
Yes, we can organize private lessons for an individual or a group. Semi-Private lessons are the standard for Frogman Scuba as we try to keep the number of students low so that we can provide the best training and safety as possible. Semi-Private lessons are for up to 4 people at the regular rate of $275 for the entire pool and Open Water class.
Fee and cancellation policy.
The class fee is due when you register for your class.  Your class fee is non-refundable within fourteen days of the class starting date and is non-transferable within seven days of the class starting date.

Open Water Certification dives = "The Final Open Water Certification Requirement"

Below are several options for the student completing their classroom and pool training.

Due to PADI Instructor-to-Student ratios, 10 and 11 year olds must be private Open Water Dives.
Local Certification Dives
From May through October, we offer PADI Open Water training dives at Blue Water Lake near Joplin, MO, at Beaver Lake, AR near Eureka Springs with our affiliate C & J Sports, or with our affiliate at Indian Point Marina, TableRock Lake, Branson, MO. Your training will consist of four dives completed over a two day period, usually Saturday and Sunday. Open Water Dives at these sites normally kickoff around the month of May depending upon the water temperature. We will also book these classes to meet your needs and schedule, just click here to inquire about specific dates you are interested in. Your classroom and pool Instructor will inform you of the next available open water session.
Referrals
Upon completion of your classroom and pool training, we will issue you a student referral to take with you on your vacation. Open water training may be completed with another PADI training facility or PADI Instructor. We can provide you with a list of PADI training facilities worldwide. Those of you who have already made travel plans will want to follow this procedure, but before you book contact Midwest Dive Club to see if you can arrange for a Club Discount on your Diving and Room(s). Open water fees are set by the dive facilities at the resort that you will be getting your certification at during your vacation.
What is the Open Water Training fee?
On Open Water Certification dives conducted by Frogman Scuba, the fee is $175. The fee includes use of scuba equipment, wetsuit, instruction, certification fees, and PADI logbook, and a Semi-Private course with the extra benefit or personal service and quality instruction while maintaining a very safe environment. Fees for Open Water Certification Dives are due when registering and are non refundable.
What certification will I receive?
Upon completion of PADI Open Water training dives with Scuba Center, you will receive the PADI Open Water certification (or Junior Open Water if under age 15). This certification allows you and a certified buddy to dive independently throughout the world.
**Frogman Scuba does not schedule classes on dedicated pre-planned weekends. The reason is so we can work to meet your schedule and training needs. We request the you fill out and submit our sign-up sheet. The sign-up sheet will allow you to choose your specific class, and rather than limiting you to certain weekends we allow you to choose the month in which you would like to complete your course. We will then reveiw your request and get back with you on specific dates that work best for you and/or your group.**
